Windows to make good, slightly better.
Vista beta, much like training wheels, adds stability.

Nearly nine months after Vista became official and accessible to the public, Microsoft prepares its first update with the release of SP1 Beta.

It is extremely difficult to have a conversation regarding Windows Vista without a deviation in topic regarding compatibility, or rather, the lack thereof. Many companies have yet to develop or release product driver updates for software and hardware to rectify the incompatibility issues. Dual core or not, speed has also been a topic of frustration. Microsoft hopes to resolve all of these matters, and some additional glitches, with its new service pack.

PC Magazine has offered a review of the early beta version. The verdict?  So far, so good!

The reviewer, Neil Randal, stated that the service pack speeds up operations and enhances overall compatibility. Already he is singing our tune. However, he goes on to say that after install, the PC returns from hibernation in nearly half the time and overall security has also been enhanced.

The ship date is pegged for Quarter 1, 2008.
