opED - Wii’s luster fading, everyone else taking advantage
As a long time Nintendo supporter, it pains me to say that I might finally be done with purchasing their consoles. The Wii was fun but it didn’t have the staying power I thought it would and if you think any other way you’ll be sorely mistaken.
I’ve come to realize that when it comes to gaming, nothing will ever beat the conventional controller. Sure, the Wii remote and nunchuk took things a bit further, offering motion gestures and the sort, but, in the end, controllers will always remain the preferred method of gaming. Let me tell you a story.
Roku Announced Netflix Media Streamer
Roku have released details of a $100 Netflix media streamer as the most recent part of its four month relationship with the internet, video rental company. Now that Roku has provided a solid product on their end, it’s up to Netflix to secure more movie distribution deals to really pull off the potential of the device.
The Roku media streamer could be a great tool for anyone who watches downloaded movies and shows often enough to warrant a purchase. The tool will be able to pull files from your computer straight to a television, a convenience that could either create or enhance the process that most people use to pull this off.
True to their less-than-faithful partnership, Roku also announced that future updates will allow the media streamer to access data from more than just the Netflix service. Plans to incorporate XBox 360 compatibility and more were mentioned in the press release.
The Netflix media streamer should be released by Roku in the near-future. Watch for further details as they surface.
Microsoft predicted RROD; still would unleash it upon the world
Sorry 360 owners - the post wouldn’t be complete without it.
Lets get one thing straight off the bat: Microsoft never intended to infect the 360 market with RROD consoles. In fact, in their haste to release the 360 a year ahead of the Nintendo Wii and the Playstation 3, Microsoft ignored potential warning signs of a 68% failure rate among test consoles. For those of you keeping score - that’s 68 out of 100 Xbox 360’s that were pretty much doomed from the get go.
