Tweet the American Election

In either a gross misstep or one of the best examples of technology being integrated into a political system, it has been revealed that this fall’s Presidential debates will feature close to real-time ‘tweets’ from viewers. The commenting system originates from Twitter and allows for a great opportunity for viewer interactivity (and influence) over the Current TV broadcast.

The move represents a fantastic take on the democratic process and could possibly give wavering voters a chance to understand or learn more about the American candidates before this November. On the other hand, the quality of tweets to show up may not be of the quality we’d all hope for.

Senators McCain and Obama’s first debate airs on September 26th with two more to follow.
