OpenSocial Adds More Languages to Social Networks
The Google-created, OpenSocial network has now added new languages to its framework which can be implemented to any compatible sites. The Hi5 platform announced today that they would be making use of these new additions to better serve their user-base.
Hi5 is probably the highest-profile social networking site that will be taking advantage of the OpenSocial language additions. Although it’s based out of San Franciso, Hi5 is used most heavily by a Spanish speaking audience so the ability to offer the site in what is a native language for many is essential. Hi5 has also provided details regarding the multi-linguistic tailoring of the iLike music application too. All of this work means that it’s finally a good time to be a non-English speaking user of the network.
The Hi5 website is already supporting over twenty different languages so improvements in OpenSocial are a perfect fit for the company. It’s a timely move considering that Facebook has been working on their own platform, Translation through volunteer efforts. Hi5 users should see changes popping up all over the network now.
