The Sirius FM-5 rocket has finally been launched into space this past Wednesday, July 1st to join the constellation created by its namesake, Sirius XM Radio.
After an initial delay pushed back the original launch date of Tuesday June 30th, the Sirius FM-5 satellite was propelled past Earth’s atmosphere from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on July 1st at 1.10am local time (3.10pm EST).
The FM-5 had been undergoing preparations since its delivery to Kazakhstan about a month ago and has been outfitted to last in space conditions for approximately 15 years after achieving geo-transfer orbit at its intended goal.
