About Minecraft
Minecraft is a game developed by Markus Persson, owner and founder of Mojang AB, a game development company. Minecraft was inspired by another game, Infiniminer. In Minecraft, players build and destroy blocks. They also create cool looking structures.
Players construct items using a variety materials including, tree trunks, stone ore, dirt and water. These items can be constructed and moved anywhere in the world but they must do so on a fixed location on the grid. Players can move about freely. One of the cool things about Minecraft is that there is no end-goal. Players don’t win or lose. They simply play.
Minecraft is currently in beta where it can be purchased for €14.95. It is available as both a single and multi-player game. The game can be downloaded or played via a person’s web browser. For those not interested in actually purchasing the game but who would still like to play it, it is possible to do so for free. There are two versions, the free Classic and paid beta. The Classic game comes with limitless material supply and the game’s focus is solely on construction.
Individuals that play the beta version are required to obtain some of the resources and materials which are freely given to Classic players, themselves. Also included in the beta version are player health features and mobs.
Though already immensely popular, Minecraft has not yet been officially released. The official release date is November 2011.
Minecraft is a Java based game. It was first released in 2009 (May 17th). Its beta version was released in December of that same year. Persson is currently working on Android and iOS versions of the game. These will also be released in 2011. When the Android version of Minecraft is released it will be done so on an exclusive basis, at least initially. For a short time it will only be available via Xperia Play. 4J Studios is creating a version for Kinect and Xbox 360.
Minecraft may be the perfect game for individuals who fancy themselves creative and who like to build stuff. This particular game delivers on both fronts.
As mentioned earlier, Minecraft was based on another popular indie game, Infiniminer. However, this isn’t the only game it pulled from. Dungeon Keeper and Dwarf Fortress were also inspirations.
Minecraft has proven to be quite popular amongst both players and critics. It has received numerous positive, critical reviews and has sold a large number of copies. According to some sources, more than 3,000,000 games have been sold and this is before the game’s official launch.
Again, if you or someone you love is a fan of Minecraft, consider purchasing officially licensed merchandise. Each of the aforementioned items is affordably priced and a fun way to show your enthusiasm for the game. Minecraft merchandise can be found online. Be on the look out for officially licensed merchandise. These have been designed and manufactured by reputable sources and so you can be confident that you are getting high quality merchandise built to last and not simply cheap, low-quality imitations.
