Moroccan Government Begins to Issue Biometric ID Cards
Morocco has just implemented a new effort to combat terrorism and ensure civil rights through the nation’s issuing of biometric ID cards. The sci-fi sounding plan has been put forth by the Direction Generale de la Securitie Nationale (DGSN) for all Moroccan citizens of eighteen years or older.
The DGSN has already issued over a million of the biometric ID cards developed by French aerospace corporation, Thales.
Moroccan citizens will be able to use the smart cards as a replacement for their birth certificates as well as papers documenting nationality and residence.
Immigration and travel will also be regulated by the ID cards.
