Coherent Inc. and Mitsubishi Provide Even More Hi-Def Options with Laser TV
Maybe it’s too early to pick between a plasma or LCD television. The hi-def TV formats continue to come in with the entrance of laser TV, a technology developed by Coherent Inc. which promises the best resolution currently available.Laser TV uses the kind of technology you’d expect for its name. Essentially the new hi-def televisions are set to host the capability of presenting twice the amount of colour as any other similar product. Lasers saturate the RGB field to a better degree than plasma or LCD technology and are said to have the best depth and clarity available as well.
Another cool little detail is the Real 3D processor available with laser TVs which makes IMAX-type viewing possible (with the requisite glasses of course). This aspect alone could ensure a large number of sales for film enthusiasts.
Mitsubishi has one of the first models up to the plate; a $7,000 USD LaserVue laser TV with impressive specifications past the format itself. They’ve also released tentative details for even larger screen models in time for Christmas 2008.
Check out this video covering the general details of laser TV. Considering how new the technology is, don’t expect to see a budget priced option for quite some time. We’ll have new information as it becomes available.
