Sony Faces Off Against Apple with MP3 Players
Sony is set to go head-to-head with Apple for this holiday season by offering their answer to the recent iPod Nano price drop with their own, budget-priced E-Series Walkman (don’t let the name fool you; it’s actually an MP3 player). The E-Series is planning to go right up against the behemoth that is the iPod Nano right in time for festive shopping by offering 4GB and 8GB models with competitive pricing. Whereas the Nano recently dropped in price to around $150 USD for similarly sized storage sizes, the E-Series will now go for $89.95 (4GB SKU) and $119.95 (8GB SKU).
Shoppers seem intent on sticking with Apple despite competitive pricing in the past so this season will be a real test of whether Sony’s brand power can match up. The E-Series Walkman has enjoyed generally positive reviews but doesn’t have the same name-based appeal as Apple so we’ll just have to see.
Those who want to pick up one of these should definitely do a bit of research before spending their money as the market is now heating up for actual competition.
