Solar Powered Television Set From Sharp

Sharp just unveiled its newest prototype, a 26″ solar powered TV. This amazing new solar powered beauty is still a prototype, but it is supposed to consume less than a third of the annual power usage that a normal CRT TV uses. This 26″ LCD TV comes with a 26″ solar panel which can be easily moved to capture the sun’s energy giving rays.

This shouldn’t be a surprise though because Sharp has been leading in the solar powered field for decades. It started in 1959 when they began manufacturing solar cells and they have continued, all the way through 1980 when they brought us solar powered calculators,
and to 2008 where they announced the plan to create a thin-film factory in Osaka.

These thin-film solar panels are the same type of panels that Sharp places on rooftops to absorb and capture energy, while allowing light to pass through.

We have seen solar power being adopted with an eagerness that only can be cause by prospective profits. But of course we cannot complain, because the development of newer and better Solar Powered Devices will help out everyone in the long run. Besides, recent studies have shown that solar power will provide more jobs than oil or coal, so its better for the economy and the environment, what more can we ask for?

The current problem with most solar power plans is that the production costs a lot. Sharp aims to change all of this with their plant in Osaka, and by continuing research in solar cell manufacturing.

As a matter of fact, the prospective price of those Solar Powered TV’s isn’t even that outrageous, it seems that Sharp is banking the success of the R&D department. Hopefully we will see more eco-friendly devices from Sharp and other companies in the future.
